According to Harmony Township Volunteer Fire Department, crews were called around noon and found one of the train’s locomotives on fire.

Officials with the Baden Volunteer Fire Department said there were no hydrants due to the train’s location once it stopped and tankers had to be called in to extinguish the flames.

Channel 11 reached out to Norfolk Southern for more details of what happened. A spokesperson sent us this statement:

“First - everyone is safe. Following our procedure in this situation, the crew quickly brought the train to a stop and exited the lead locomotive - there was nobody in the trailing locomotive that caught fire. The local fire department responded and extinguished the fire, and major damage was contained to that single locomotive. It has been swapped out of service and the train is expected to be moving again soon.

We’re grateful that our crew is safe and no one was hurt. We commend them for acting with professionalism and calmness throughout this incident. We’d like to thank the Baden Volunteer Fire Department for responding to the scene and quickly putting out the fire.”
