HARMONY TWP., Pa. — It was a dramatic scene in Beaver County earlier when a mother and child had to be rescued from a porch roof.

Everyone is safe, but five people have nowhere to go.

These devastating pictures shared with Channel 11 show just how intense the fire was here on Stephen Street in Ambridge.

We’re told the fire broke out around 10:30 a.m.

A mother and child were home at the time, and crawled onto one of the apartment roofs to safety.A neighbor saw the pair and quickly jumped into action, grabbing a ladder and rescuing them.

Patrick Shearer, fire chief of Harmony Township, said, “Seconds matter, and he did a great job with helping get her down. When I pulled up, he had gotten her to the ground and we got them away from the structure. Seconds matter.”

At one point, the chief said he had to call everyone out of the building for their safety because of water issues.

He says once the tankers got here with water, the firefighters were then able to get a handle on it.

The fire was put out within an hour.
