The flames started in the middle house and within seconds spread to the homes on each side.

The roof on one of the homes collapsed.

The Vandergrift fire chief said two of the homes are a total loss, and the third home has extensive damage.

Everyone escaped the flames.

The people living at one home said they are so grateful to the fire crews and feel truly lucky to be alive.

“How quickly things can change … in a moment ... in the twinkling of an eye. You don’t know. We’ve lived here 51 years. The house can be replaced but it’s memories. Our children. Different memories. We thank God we are both safe,” said homeowners Reverend Robert Mills and Carole Mills.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross is helping all three families.
