Flames destroy home in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — A house caught fire Monday night in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood, officials said.

The fire was reported shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Main Street. Smoke could be seen from miles away.

It quickly climbed to a three-alarm fire as flames started spreading to neighboring properties.

Firefighters said the fire was tough to battle because the buildings are very close together.

Luckily, the man, woman and child living at the home made it out OK. Their home was gutted and they lost everything.

Lauren Ballew lives next door above Radio Skateshop.

She got a call that she had to get home immediately to rescue her pets and grab what she could.

Ballew said the firewall likely protected her place from burning to the ground, but there is still extensive water and smoke damage.

“Honestly I collapsed to the ground. Like, I was in a panic. I couldn’t breathe. I was crying. I mean this is my worst nightmare and ya know you don’t ever think it’ll happen to you and then here we are,” Ballew said.

Investigators are still working to find out what sparked the fire.
