PITTSBURGH — Saturday marked the first time ever additional voting sites were open in Allegheny County for the November General Election. People turned out early and lines were steady.
“It was pretty seamless. Everything went really well. You just drive in, get out of your car, stand in line and drop off your ballot,” Charles Guilamo said.

Guilamo and his 4-year-old son were some of the first people in line Saturday morning at the Public Works Department in Carnegie. It was converted into a satellite voting site where people could request, fill out and drop off a mail-in ballot in one stop.
“It definitely made it much more efficient. It’s nice to see people out here exercising their right to vote, and this is definitely something I’m looking forward to seeing more of in the future,” Guilamo said.
In addition to the site in Carnegie, four others were opened at:
- The County office building
- CCAC in Homewood
- North Park Ice Rink
- South Park Ice Rink
“I was really tempted to vote on site on Election Day but I decided this was easier than doing that because I don’t know how long the lines would be,” Angelika Kane said.
“I didn’t want to go all the way into town to drop off a ballot, and I wanted to doubly make sure that the ballot got through by Election Day. So I figured this was a better way to do it than just putting it in the mail,” Kathleen Hays said.
