SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Flames began shooting from a gas line late Thursday night in Scott Township.
Officials said a wire fell onto a metal fence, which created an electrical current that ignited the gas line.
The fire happened about 11:30 p.m. behind the Greentree Road Shops, a shopping plaza along Greentree Road.
Firefighters said that when they got to the scene, the intense blaze had bricks on the back side of the MedExpress steaming.
At one point, people in three homes on a street behind the plaza were evacuated as a precaution. They were later allowed to return.
Businesses in the plaza, including MedExpress and the First National Bank, were forced to close Friday because they were without power and gas.
