Four-alarm fire causes heavy damage to row houses in Ambridge

AMBRIDGE — A fire caused heavy damage to several row houses in Ambridge overnight Sunday.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Firefighters went door to door evacuated residents in the structures, and the fire went to four alarms. People were home at the time — but did get out safely. Five rowhouses were destroyed.

Fire officials are asking people to avoid the area since roads are still inaccessible. An investigation into the cause is ongoing.

There was also a power outage, and Duquesne light crews worked through the morning to restore electricity.
