Kara Leo, a beloved wife, mother of two boys and local business owner, passed away after a tree branch fell and struck her and her husband Jared while the two were hiking along the Morton Ravine Trail in Upper St. Clair’s Boyce Mayview Park.
Kara didn’t survive her injuries. Jared is in critical condition.
Family and friends came together Saturday at her bakery, Kara’s Kakes, on Beverly Road in Mount Lebanon to honor her legacy by completing her work in the bakery and offering those treats to the community.
All proceeds go to her two boys, Oliver & Owen. A GoFundMe has also been created to help with expenses.
The goal for the GoFundMe page to help the Leo family was initially $125,000. Today the amount raised is over $259,000.
Those who knew Kara best say they want to be more like her and lead with kindness and joy.
