SEVEN SPRINGS, Pa. — A sense of excitement, and man-made snow, is in the air at Seven Springs. The resort is preparing for its 2021 opening weekend, which gets underway Saturday.
Snowmaking operations have been underway for nearly two weeks.
“Regardless of how much terrain’s open, how deep the base is, it’s always just a great opportunity to get your legs under you and get those first runs of the season in,” said Alex Moser, the director of marketing and communications at Seven Springs.
Skiers and snowboarders are chomping at the bit to get out there. The resort says it is on pace for record-breaking season pass sales this year. It will have eight to 10 of its 33 slopes open this weekend from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Opening weekend this year comes a week earlier than last year, but a little later than most.
“Typically, we open the day after Thanksgiving,” explained Moser. “What you guys call Black Friday, we call White Friday.”
When it comes to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, employees will be wearing masks indoors and guests will be asked to do the same, but not required.
“We’re hopeful, though, that everyone will be outside and those restrictions are pretty much gone,” said Moser.
All new this year, the resort has replaced its Avalanche lift with a new four-seat chair lift. It will open later this season when more slopes are open.
The resort has also added ax throwing at the Foggy Goggle Ax House.
“You can hang out in the Foggy and also throw some axes, so that’s a fun little thing,” said Moser.
Tickets for opening weekend will be $72 for adults and $55 for children.
After this weekend, the slopes will likely be closed for a few days, according to the resort, in hopes of re-opening next weekend.
