Gateway School District extends remote learning after more Covid-19 cases

MONROEVILLE — Two schools within the Gateway School District will extend remote learning due to more confirmed COVID-19 cases, the district announced Tuesday.

Gateway High School and Moss Side Middle School will be extended through Oct. 9.

A release from the district stated that Gateway High School has seven additional confirmed student cases and Moss Side Middle School has two additional confirmed staff cases.

Contact tracing will occur, and individuals will be contacted if determined to be in close contact, the district said.

Superintendent William Short thanked the district for “your patience and understanding as we work together in response to the recent announcement of remote learning for due to recent COVID-19 confirmed cases.”

School Board President Mary Beth Cirucci released a statement Tuesday evening saying, “having Covid cases is not unexpected. As it is with other school districts going through this pandemic, our board and administration put into place an effective health and safety plan. Our administration has shown extraordinary leadership. We continue to work with the health department closely as we monitor the situation. Our parents, students and staff have been patient and supportive and our thoughts and prayers are with all of our families dealing with this pandemic. Our hope is for a speedy recovery for everyone.”
