HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf signed a renewal to the COVID-19 disaster declaration for the third time on Tuesday.
According to the governor’s office, the declaration “provides for increased support to state agencies involved in the continued response to the virus and recovery for the state during reopening.”
Among other things, it includes lifting some regulations to help with mitigation efforts.
It also has given waivers and extensions to Pennsylvania residents and businesses who have been struggling during the pandemic – such as waiving the waiting period to receive unemployment checks.
Through the declaration – which Wolf first signed in March after the first two presumptive positive cases in Pa. – the National Guard is able to provide support to long-term care facilities and community-based testing sites.
Officials said the declaration is effective for 90 days unless sooner rescinded or extended by the governor.
