GREENSBURG, Pa. — Westmoreland County’s district attorney said police were justified in killing a woman who randomly opened fire on passing cars last year.

The district attorney painted a chaotic and heart-pounding scene – a woman firing her gun constantly in a neighborhood full of families with a school and business nearby, and officers who had to protect their community.
Greensburg police officers were cleared of any wrongdoing Thursday in the deadly shooting of Nina Adams, 48, on March 13. Several neighbors and people driving by said Adams was on her front porch on Harvey Avenue shooting at them nonchalantly, nearly emptying the magazine.

When officers got there, she still had her gun drawn.
After commands to drop the weapon didn’t work, police said Adams instead raised her gun at officers for a second time. At that point, the DA said an officer had no choice but to fire a deadly shot.
Family told Channel 11 Adams – a former nurse – was struggling with mental illness, was diagnosed with schizophrenia and suffered tremendously after the death of her mother.
