PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — It seems we won’t be treated to an early spring this year, instead having to put up with winter a little while longer.
With 132 years of experience (as his top hat-wearing Inner Circle insists), Punxsutawney Phil gave his annual Groundhog Day prognostication.
Phil emerged from his burrow on Gobbler’s Knob just before 7:30 a.m. Friday, checking to see if he would cast a shadow before thousands of onlookers … and he did.

When Pennsylvania’s most famous groundhog sees his shadow, winter weather continues for six more weeks, legend has it. If not, spring comes early.
Phil's proclamation was translated by the president of the Inner Circle -- the only person who understands the "Groundhogese" language -- according to The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.
