Hays Bald Eagles lay second egg in nest

The Hays Bald Eagles now have two eggs in their nest. A second egg was laid around 2 p.m. Monday. The first egg was laid on Friday. 

The eggs usually hatch 35 days from when they were laid.

Officials said there is usually a 2-4 day span between laying eggs.

An adult Bald Eagle will stay on the nest constantly, incubating the egg. The adult eagles will take turns on the nest, never leaving it unattended.

When the adult stands up, it can be seen rolling the egg to keep a constant temperature within the egg. When this occurs, the egg is visible in the nest bowl. The adult then lays back down over the egg to continue incubation.

The Hays Bald Eagles have been nesting on the same hillside since 2013.
