LATROBE, Pa. — A hazing incident involving the Greater Latrobe Junior High wrestling team is under investigation, the district confirmed to Channel 11.

A district official said two exhibition tournaments and an exhibition match have been canceled because of the ongoing investigation.

State police said the incident involves some members of the wrestling team. They said they have a lot of people to talk to.

“I would say we would call it somewhat of an assault that took place. So it’s really early on in our investigation; we were provided some physical evidence like some video evidence and we’ve been working on conducting interviews and have a long way to go," said Trooper Steve Limani of Pennsylvania State Police Greensburg.

State police said they’re taking over this investigation because of just how big and how severe this case is, but troopers, at this point, believe this was a one-time incident, not necessarily a passage of something handed down to be a part of the team.

If investigators believe this rises to the level of crime, they say the appropriate charges will be filed.

Superintendent Georgia Teppert gave Channel 11 the following statement regarding the incident:

"Due to legal requirements of confidentiality relating to student privacy and personnel issues, the School District is unable to comment on the specifics of this matter. However, we assure our school community that the District is taking all appropriate actions necessary.

There is an ongoing investigation involving a hazing incident with the junior high wrestling team. All section wrestling matches have been completed. Two exhibition tournaments and an exhibition match was cancelled, due to the investigation. A letter is drafted to be shared with parents and individual parent meetings have been held and continue to be held on an as needed basis."
