ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — The Allegheny County Health Department is working to curb weather-related pollution issues.
Recently, the county had strong and lengthy ups and downs in temperatures, as well as changing weather conditions from wind to fog to a warm front. Health department officials said those conditions and inversions can trap pollutants.
Severe weather inversions -- which officials said have to do with climate change -- happened twice in 2019, creating concern for further possible air quality standards.

The health department has added legal, management and professional staff and will continue to enforce regulations. There are plans to propose a new air quality regulation in 2020 and to build an infrastructure to model and forecast inversion events.
Officials said the health department is working with lawmakers to propose more legislation that will improve air quality.
