It’s apparent that during hard times, the Pittsburgh region always comes together to help one another.
Local surgeon teaming up with charities to help feed people in need
A local surgeon is teaming up with charities for a two-fold initiative that supports restaurants and feeds the hungry.
"It's a donation where you give once and you help twice," said Dr. Mark Baratz, who named the effort "Double Play."
With the help of charities like Casa San Jose, Operation Safety Net and 412 Food Rescue, Baratz is collecting monetary donations for restaurants. That money is in turn used to make meals for those in need.

Already, roughly 4,000 meals have been distributed.

Saxonburg chocolate company creates edible toilet paper
Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you: the Speckled Hen Chocolate Company made a candy creation that resembles toilet paper.
It’s sold at local American Natural locations, as well as the company’s store on Saxonburg Boulevard.
Online Clearview Cares Day helps Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank
Clearview Federal Credit Union raised more than $4,000 Friday fro the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank by hosting their inaugural, virtual Clearview Cares Day.
The online day of giving was created by employees to help those who need food because of the coronavirus outbreak. Their goal was $3,000, and they exceeded that goal by raising $4,357.
It is the largest amount ever raised in a single day by Clearview employees.

Giant Eagle bakery donates sweets to health care workers
How sweet! Members of the Giant Eagle bakery team donated thousands of baked goods to health care workers at local hospitals.
They dropped off individually packaged muffins, cupcakes, and cookies to Allegheny General Hospital, UPMC St. Margaret and UPMC McKeesport.
The donation coincided with National Superhero Day, and it was their way of thanking our real-life superheroes.
Moon lacrosse seniors recognized in creative way
Their season and senior recognition day may have been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but that didn’t stop the Moon Area School District lacrosse team from honoring their seniors.
On Saturday, on what would have been the team’s senior recognition day, the team decorated cars, made signs and drove to all 12 seniors’ houses so each boy could be recognized in front of their families and neighbors.
