PITTSBURGH — Families arriving in Pittsburgh from Afghanistan are in need of a place to stay. Tonight, one local organization is trying to make that happen.
Dana Gold, COO of Jewish Family and Community Services, is making a plea today to the people of Pittsburgh to help families arriving from Afghanistan. Specifically, Gold is requesting to open your home to these refugees.

“One of the things we’re looking for (is) people who have ... an in-law suite or separate apartment or carriage house, but it needs to have a separate entry.” Gold said. “We anticipate having around 200 to 250 people that we will be resettling between now and March, and so the need is great.”
While her group is doing all they can, Gold says it’s become too costly and unrealistic to house these families.
“Every dollar that we are using before we can get people into their own permanent apartment is depleting what they have to live on, and to help them get settled and launched,” she said.
The organization also says if you can’t provide a physical place for these families, donations also help a great deal in offsetting their costs. Here is where you can learn more about donating.
