ETNA, Pa. — A home was severely damaged Tuesday afternoon after a garbage truck ran into it in Etna.
The house sits where Route 8 meets Kittanning Street. There was extensive damage to the front of the home.
The truck was laying on its side, which impacted traffic on part of Route 8 during the afternoon rush.
Cameras nearby showed the County Hauling Garbage truck careen down Kittanning Street and smash through the front of the home. Both the driver and passenger were able to jump out before impact.
Police said the truck appeared to have lost its brakes.
Michelle Kelly lives in the house on Kittanning Street in Etna with her daughter and two grandchildren. Kelly’s daughter and two grandchildren were inside.
Her grandson was sleeping in the room where the truck crashed into.
Kelly has called it home for four years.
Paramedics took the driver of the garbage truck to the hospital with minor injuries.
The house could be condemned because it’s not structurally safe, according to fire officials.
Channel 11 has learned that the Red Cross is assisting the family with a new place to stay for a few nights.
Family members started a GoFundMe page for those who live there. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can do so by clicking here.
