MCDONALD, Pa. — Right at the holidays, members of a McDonald family are out of their home after a fire broke out Wednesday morning.

Amber Coleman, her two daughters and her boyfriend were sleeping in their North Street home when she heard a pounding noise just before 6:30 a.m.

The fire chief told Channel 11 a man on his way to the gym saw the flames and alerted the family to the fire.

“I literally owe my life to him. My children and me would have never made it out of there if he wouldn't have woken us up,” Coleman said.

Amber grabbed her 3 and 6 year old daughters out of bed, rushing to escape the flames she says were coming into the house from the back porch.

She handed to kids out the window to her boyfriend who was on the roof of the front porch. He passed them down to people below.

“My little one's glass led are in the house and she keeps asking can we please go back in and get them and she doesn't understand that we can't ever go back in there,” Coleman said.

Coleman also said a lot of the Christmas presents for her kids were inside her house.

Coleman’s landlord, who lives on the first floor, made it out safely as well.

The state police fire marshal is investigating how the fire started.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the victims of the fire.
