Iconic Squirrel Hill movie theater reopens Friday

PITTSBURGH — A landmark independent theater in Squirrel Hill is reopening its doors.

The Manor Theatre will begin showing multiple films at its Murray Avenue location for the anticipated reopening Friday.

“I saw the sign and I immediately emailed all of my friends, everyone is thrilled,” said resident Judy Morrow.

The theater, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2022, has been closed for several months.

In a Facebook post from December, managers informed fans that it was closing due to the governor’s mandate.

According to the Facebook page, customers can now buy individual tickets in addition to hosting private screenings.

Several other independent theaters still have not fully reopened.

In Lawrenceville, the Row House Cinema is welcoming customers back for private screenings, with a maximum capacity of 20 people.

Downtown, the Harris Theater is continuing with its “at home” series where people can purchase tickets to stream films that are otherwise unavailable for rent.
