Juvenile wounded, second taken to police headquarters after shooting in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — One juvenile was shot in the leg and a second juvenile was taken to police headquarters for questioning after a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Sheraden neighborhood.

Police responded to the 300 block of Minton Street for a Shotspotter alert for multiple shots fired just before 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers found the juvenile victim with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said another juvenile was taken to headquarters for questioning in connection with the incident.

One home in the 3000 block of Merwyn Avenue was also hit by gunfire.

It was the second time in a week that a young person was hurt by violence in the city.

City Council President Theresa Kail-Smith lives nearby and said the violence is a distraction from all the good happening in Sheraden.

“All those things that we do that are positive, when somebody is hurt or shot or some violence in our community, it seems like all those efforts are put on the back burner,” Kail-Smith said.

No one has been arrested in the shooting and police are asking anyone with information to call 911.
