WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Kennywood celebrated the 90th anniversary of its iconic Racer roller coaster on Saturday.

The amusement park marked the occasion with a racing competition. The rider with the most wins on Saturday won a 2018 Season Pass.

While park officials wouldn’t say if one of the coaster’s cars is faster than the other, spokesman Nick Paradise compared winning the race to having “grandma's secret recipe.”

“You don't always want to give away all of the ingredients, but generally, it's whatever train has more weight on it is going to go faster down the hills and pick up the advantage in the end,” Paradise said.

According to Kennywood, the Racer is one of only three continuous single-track wooden racing coasters in the world that is still operating. Its sister coasters are in England and Mexico.
