Kennywood, Sandcastle, Idlewild host new events for July 4 Holiday Weekend

PITTSBURGH — Kennywood, Sandcastle Waterpark and Idlewild & SoakZone are hosting new events and programs for the Independence Day holiday weekend.

All three parks will honor active duty and retired military members and veterans with free admission from July 2-5. Service members must have received an honorable discharge and have a valid ID. They can purchase up to three discounted tickets for $20 each.

At Kennywood, visitors can take in musical performances throughout the weekend, along with the popular Wiener 100 dachshund races. That will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Visitors to Sandcastle can enjoy the reopened Lazy River attraction and extended hours.

There will be a fireworks celebration at Idlewild & SoakZone, with the event to blast off starting at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 4.
