Kids now need parent or legal guardian to see movies at Monroeville Mall on weekends

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — Starting this weekend, all children under 18 years old will not be able to go to the movies in Monroeville without a parent or legal guardian with them.

According to Channel 11 News’ exchange partners at TribLIVE, the Cinemark Monroeville Mall and XD – located at the mall – posted signs around the theater regarding the new policy that went into effect Friday.

“No one under the age of 18 permitted in theatre after 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents must stay and watch the same movie with their child at all times after 6 p.m.,” the new rule reads.

A mall spokesperson told TribLIVE this new rule aligns with the mall’s “Youth Escort Policy,” which was implemented in April 2017.

That policy prohibits children under 18 to be without a parent or legal guardian past 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It applies to any of the mall’s stores, entries, walkways and parking lots.

According to the mall’s policy, those not following the rule can be asked to leave. If they don’t, they could be prosecuted for trespassing.

The Cinemark theater shares the same operating hours as the mall, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
