LATROBE, Pa. — The Latrobe Police Department has a new K-9 officer.
K-9 Zeus, a 1-year-old German shepherd from Hungary, is the department’s newest member.
K-9 Zeus has been certified in patrol and narcotics detection and has already alerted to over $1,600 in narcotics and $1,100 in cash.

He was purchased with a donation made by Mary Beth Eslary, in memory of her husband, Lt. Eric Eslary of the Ligonier Township Police K-9 Unit.
Eslary was killed when Clair Fink III drove drunk and caused a wrong-way crash. He’s serving a 12- to 30-year sentence.
The Latrobe Police Department said Eslary played an important part in getting the Latrobe Police K-9 Unit started in April 2011.
