PITTSBURGH — A special public hearing will seemingly decide the fate of the Christopher Columbus statue in Schenley Park.
The Pittsburgh Art Commission announced the virtual hearing will be Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m., including a presentation of the “history and context of the statue” and time for testimony from the public.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto previously said he wanted the group to decide if the statue should be removed, replaced or remain unchanged. Calls to remove the statue grew over the summer amid nationwide protests. It has been vandalized at least two times.
There are three ways for you to make your comment heard: verbal statement during the hearing, written statement beforehand or through a survey on the city’s website.
City officials set up opportunity for input on Engage PGH. You can choose from one of four options for the statue: no action, remove, replace or alter.
