WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Local activists and community leaders are demanding justice for a 15-year-old girl who they say was assaulted by police officers.

The alleged incident happened on a West Mifflin school bus and was captured on video. The solicitor for the borough won’t comment on the investigation but said the officers acted appropriately.

According to an attorney representing the girl’s family, two officers assaulted and hurt the teen during an incident in December. The attorney called for the district attorney to review the case but no action has been taken so far.

Elected officials, activists and community members spoke out during the meeting Tuesday night, but they left with no answers to the questions they demanded answers to.

“That arrest was brutal. It was not an arrest at all -- it was an assault,” said Fawn Walker, of Take Action Mon Valley.

Mary Nesby, the mayor of the City of Duquesne, said she found it “very disturbing” to watch the video. In the video that was caught on cellphones, an officer is seen pulling the girl’s hair, and at one point her nose begins to bleed.

Last month, Channel 11′s Michele Newell spoke with the teen’s family after it happened.

According to Phil DiLucente, the West Mifflin solicitor, the officers who were involved are not on administrative leave or any kind of leave for disciplinary reasons following this incident.
