SAXONBURG, Pa. — Saxonburg police Chief Greg Adams' death is the longest running cold case involving a police officer in the country.

Armed with new information from the FBI, the chief's family filed a civil suit Thursday to get the suspect's wife and son to talk.

"His family has never given up on this," Tom King, their attorney, said.

TRENDING NOW:

Police say Donald Eugene Webb shot the chief twice and pistol-whipped him with his own service gun after the chief pulled him over for running a stop sign on Dec. 4, 1980.

The FBI calls Webb a "career criminal" and a "master of assumed identities."

Agents have been tracking him for decades and now, new information is coming out.

King told Channel 11 the FBI has uncovered things at Webb's home in Massachusetts, where his wife still lives, that could break the case.

According to King, the FBI found a hidden room on the other side of a closet in that Massachusetts home.

Inside that room, agents said they also found a cane. Police say Webb was shot in the leg during the confrontation with Chief Adams and may need a cane.

The FBI is set to release more details on this case in the next few weeks.
