WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — A local school district is mourning the loss of a beloved student and talented athlete.
Dasani Green, 17, a senior at West Mifflin Area High School, died unexpectedly.

Green was a star on the football field and even made time to excel on the track team.
"Definitely a tragedy. He was a good kid," said West Mifflin Area High School principal Chad Licht.
Licht got the tragic news this morning. At this point, it's not clear what caused Green's sudden death.
The school sent a letter out not too long after, saying in part: “This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school, especially our students”
Green wasn't just a talented athlete -- he was an honor roll student.
“He enjoyed art, very respectful student, just a really good all-around kid," Licht said.
Additional counselors from a crisis team and a mental health organization were at the school on Wednesday.
Students are also going to gather and discuss what they'd like to do to remember Green's life.

Head track coach Mike Mazzarese said Green will be remembered not only for his athleticism, but for his wonderful personality.
"It's gonna be a big loss. The kids will miss him," Mazzarese said.
Green ran the 100 and 200-meter sprints and occasionally long-jumped, but Mazzarese said he loved the relays. His freshman year, the relay team made it to the state championships.
"He was in the upper echelon of sprinters I coached over the years," he said.
Coaches are discussing ways to honor Green this upcoming outdoor track season.
Green's best friend, Quinton Davis, told Channel 11 he is still having a hard time processing what happened.
Davis said Green was goofy and always had a smile on his face. He wanted to help people.
"The thing he said to me the most was, 'I'll be with you through every storm, no matter what,'" Davis said.
