INDIANA, Pa. — As tensions rise in the Middle East, local soldiers are headed to Afghanistan.
Ninety-one soldiers of the 430th Engineer Company were deployed Wednesday morning from Indiana County.
The soldiers will conduct route clearance missions during their deployment in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

The unit is made up of soldiers from across Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Ohio.
The soldiers and their families attended a deployment ceremony in Indiana followed by a sendoff by the community.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers gave the soldiers an escort as they left Indiana County to begin their deployment.
