A look at how WPXI Anchor Peggy Finnegan gave back to Pittsburgh during her 31-year career

After 31 years with WPXI Channel 11, Friday will be news anchor Peggy Finnegan’s last day. While she won’t be telling Pittsburgh’s stories every day, she will still be remembered fondly by many in the community.

Over the years, she’s given her time to help many causes. On Dancing with the Celebrities of Pittsburgh, she got second place, helping to raise money for the Kiwanis Club of Pittsburgh Foundation, Family House, Pittsburgh Caregiver Support Network and the Cancer Caring Center.

She appeared on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and helped raise money for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Every year she helped Saint Barnabas Health System hand out presents for patients and celebrate its Founders Day.

“Peggy’s been a real friend of St. Barnabas over the years and it’s hard for me to imagine show’s not going to be on air at WPXI,” said president and CEO, William Day.

She was the torch bearer for big Pittsburgh events and was the face of 11 Cares. She also had a major hand in the Proud to be from Pittsburgh series airing every week.

“Peggy is like a good friend. Better than that, a neighbor, but here’s a good friend and she’s coming on television and she’s going to tell us a story and make it as interesting as possible and that’s Peggy. I mean, I just can’t say enough good things about that lady,” Day said.

Through all of it, she’s embraced Pittsburgh as home and all of us as an extended family.

Friday was deemed by Mayor Bill Peduto as ‘Peggy Finnegan Day’ in Pittsburgh.
