The news that various COVID-19 vaccines are being rolled out has many people wondering what effect this will have on their travel and vacations next year. A travel agent said that in addition to showing your airline ticket and identification or passport, you may also have to show proof you’ve been vaccinated.
“I think in order to move freely from state to state or country to country that having proof of that vaccination will be a requirement,” said Mollie Fitzgerald, owner of Frontiers International Travel.
Fitzgerald said that while things are still up in the air, having to show proof you’ve gotten the vaccine is definitely a possibility.
“They haven’t exactly set up the protocols for that yet so there’s still a question hanging over that,” she said.
Since the vaccine won’t be available to the general public until spring at the earliest, Fitzgerald thinks the travel season will get closer to normal by the beginning of the summer. She also said there’s a huge push right now to book summer vacations, due to so many trips being canceled last year.
“I noticed in the last couple of days that we had a few more calls and people are starting to plan, especially for later in 2021,” Fitzgerald said.
Some travelers, though, are still pushing their trips back to 2022 just to be cautious.
“There are still a few questions over when its going to be safe and when we’ll be able to travel and they [travelers] just say ‘You know what, I’m doing it in 2022 because by then, it’s going to be sorted out,’” Fitzgerald said.
She added many popular destinations are already filling up for next year so you may want to book your trip sooner rather later.
