Man arrested after hitting, killing man in wheelchair in July

PITTSBURGH — A 50-year-old Bethel Park man was arrested Thursday after police said he was under the influence when he hit and killed a man in a motorized wheelchair in July.

Eric Walker was charged with involuntary manslaughter and homicide by vehicle among other charges.

Investigators said 72-year-old Anthony Donofrio was crossing the intersection of 7th Street and West Street in Homestead in mid-July in a motorized wheelchair around 10:30 a.m. Walker was driving a pickup truck when he hit Donofrio, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Walker turned himself in to police and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
