HEMPFIELD TWP., Pa. — Authorities in Westmoreland County are looking for a person who dumped a crate of puppies and a mother dog on the side of a Hempfield Township road.
Eight puppies and their mother were left in a crate off Elkhart Street a few weeks ago.
“This is not the way to do it. Because dogs can’t fend for themselves and especially don’t leave them in a crate. I mean come on,” Andrea Palmer, humane officer for All But Furgotten, said.
A good Samaritan found the crate and turned the animals over to the group.
The puppies were just a few days old, and Palmer believes they may have only survived another day if they hadn’t been rescued.
A foster has taken them in until they can be adopted, and the mom and her pups are on the path to a full recovery.
Palmer said they are hoping to track down the person who left the animals behind.
“We have no idea who dumped them and we would like to know why and why didn’t they reach out for help,” she said. “Please if you need to surrender your dog, please reach out, there’s numerous shelters from here to Pittsburgh to Indiana, tons of shelters to reach out to.”
All of the dogs will be up for adoption in a couple of weeks. If you’d like to adopt one or donate to their care you can reach out to the rescue at 724-382-7178 or visit the organization’s website.
