PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are investigating an overnight robbery in the city’s Mount Washington neighborhood.
According to officers, a man was targeted just after midnight Monday after stopping to use an outdoor ATM near the corner of Virginia Avenue and Shiloh Street, before continuing down Virginia Avenue.
The man told officers he believes he was followed from the ATM.
About a quarter-mile away, near the intersection of Bailey Avenue and Cushman Street, the man was allegedly held up at knifepoint by two other men who got away with his wallet and phone.
“I think it was kind of dumb, I guess, to take money out of a MAC machine at midnight,” said Jim, who lives on Mount Washington.
He said he often uses the same ATM as the victim, but never after dark.
“That guy probably works hard for his money, like everybody else,” said Jim. “It had to be a hell of a scare.”
Police have not said how much money was stolen.
No arrests have been made.
Investigators said the victim was not hurt.
“As long as the guy didn’t get hurt, that money, wallet, phone can be replaced,” said Jim.
