MONROEVILLE, Pa. — A man died after he was hit by a drunk driver, who took off before being arrested, Wednesday night in Monroeville, police said.
The hit-and-run happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Mosside Boulevard.
Police officers who were called to the scene found a 50-year-old man who had been hit. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. He was identified as James Scandrick.
The driver of the car did not stay at the scene, but he was later found and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Police identified him as 22-year-old Braden Chetsko, of Monroeville.
Chetsko is charged with homicide by vehicle while DUI, involuntary manslaughter, accident involving death or personal injury while DUI, failure to render aid, and other related charges.
“Me and my daughter were coming home from the South Side celebrating her 11th birthday dinner when we were getting off the exit. We were at an intersection where the UPMC hospital is,” said Jennifer Pusateri. “We heard this loud noise. When we looked up, we saw this car just flying. I mean like flying, super fast. It was really scary.”
Pusateri witnessed the entire crash and saw rescue crews rush in.
“I was shaking pretty bad. My heart was jumping because I felt like how could I help him and I couldn’t,” she said. “We just kept praying and saying he’s going to be okay.”
