WEST FINLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man was found dead after a fire that caused a home’s roof to collapse early Monday morning in West Finley Township, Washington County, officials said.
The fire was reported about 2 a.m. on Beham Ridge Road.
"Fully involved. Every level of the structure out of every opening we had fire," said Fire Chief Eric Graham.
One man made it out of the home, but a man in his 50s died, investigators said.
Firefighters and state police rushed to the scene after a neighbor called 911. As flames engulfed the home, the roof collapsed.
In order to put out the flames, firefighters had to shuttle in tankers.
The man who died was found in the basement, officials said.
“It’s rough. I already had my cry. He would come down and borrow tools from my husband and bring them back working on the house up there,” Judy Francis, a neighbor, said.
"I'm getting emotional now just thinking about somebody dying in a fire. It's a tough way to go."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire officials said there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
