Man found shot to death inside Penn Hills home

A man was found shot to death late Thursday night inside a Penn Hills home.

Police were called about 10:30 p.m. to the home on Schley Street, where the man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, investigators said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 39-year-old Jerry Alston.

Investigators spent nearly six hours processing the scene.

A woman who knew Alston for 20 years told Channel 11 News he was always the first person to lend a helping hand.

“He would do anything for anyone. He would give the shirt off his back to you and help you with anything he needed help with,” the woman, who did not want to be identified, said. “What can I say? Yes, one of those guys you want to meet and keep as a friend forever.”

Police have not determined a motive or identified any suspects.
