CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man rushed to save a woman and her young daughter when they were attacked Sunday night by a dog at an animal rescue facility in Washington County, Channel 11’s Cara Sapida reported.

The attack occurred at Angel Ridge Animal Rescue in Chartiers Township, where the woman had brought her 4- and 7-year-old daughters. They were walking the dog at the time of the attack.

Amanda Welch, the sister of the woman, said the pit bull bit the 4-year-old above her eye. The mother was attacked as she tried to stop the dog, which bit both of her arms, breaking one of them.

The dog continued biting the woman as Killion made his way over to her.

“She fought that dog like a banshee the whole time I'm running to her,” Killion said. “I couldn't get the dog to quit. Finally, I'm whooping him with my belt, punching. Finally, I just tackled him to get him off of her.”

Killion called 911 and continued helping the woman.

“I had a belt on one arm, the leash from the dog on the other one. Two tourniquets,” he said.

The woman was flown to Allegheny General Hospital, where she was in critical condition on Monday. Her daughter was also hospitalized.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help pay for medical expenses.
