PITCAIRN, Pa. — A man is dead and a woman was injured following an incident Saturday that started with a shooting and ended moments later with a roll-over car crash.
Police said Garrett Cogdell was arrested and charged in connection with the deadly incident.
According to court documents, the Pitcairn Police Chief was the first person to respond to the scene along 3rd Street at around 1 p.m. He found a Kia Forte had crashed and rolled onto its roof with people inside.
A woman was removed from the vehicle and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Hospital staff found she had been shot five times in her legs and was in critical condition.
A man, later identified as Donte Broadus, was also found in the Kia. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he had been shot multiple times on his right side.
Court documents stated that investigators from multiple departments began searching for a suspect. A man fitting that description was found “soaking wet with soiled shoes” near the entrance of Sugar Camp Park. He was identified as Cogdell.
Investigators said he agreed to go to police headquarters and confessed to the shooting. Cogdell allegedly told police he saw Broadus’ car speeding up his street on Saturday. He said as it neared, someone began shooting at him out the window. He ran, grabbed a gun from his garage and fired back.
