PITTSBURGH — A man running from Pittsburgh police died after falling over a rocky hillside in the city’s Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood during a foot chase.

Devon Flanigan, 27, died on Wednesday after being in the hospital for nearly two weeks.

According to investigators, the man ran up a set of stairs during the chase and then tried to get through a row of hedges or bushes.

Police said he didn’t realize what was on the other side and slipped over the steep, rocky hillside and landed on Brighton Road below.

A police spokesperson said the officers had their body cameras on as they started chasing him up a hillside, but say that the man tried to get away and slipped down the side of the cliff.

Because Pittsburgh officers were involved in the pursuit, Allegheny County police took over the investigation.
