A man who was involved in a deadly 2017 robbery in Penn Hills was sentenced on Wednesday.

Donald King was sentenced to mandatory life in prison plus an additional 31 to 62 years, according to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office.

King was convicted of first-degree murder in 2021 in the shooting death of Kevin Trowery. He was also convicted on all other charges except for theft and receiving stolen property.

King’s brother, Devante King, requested a postponement for his sentencing hearing until April 26.

According to police, they are two of three men who robbed and killed Kevin Trowery at a home in Penn Hills in August 2017.

The third man, Dustin Taylor, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder before the start of the jury selection.

Police found the shooting victim just after 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 6, 2017, in the back of a home on Conestoga Road. The victim, Trowery, 54, was declared dead at the scene.

According to a criminal complaint, police responded to a shots fired call to the home and say the three men, all in black clothing and appearing to have masks over their faces, exited through the back of the house. When a responding officer confronted the men and identified himself, they attempted to run away.

Donald King was the first one caught.
