PITTSBURGH — A Mt. Washington man told police a friend stabbed him several times with a screwdriver before a neighbor stopped the attack by opening fire.

The victim told police he was sleeping on his couch when he heard pounding on his front door. When he opened the door, Hernandez -- a longtime friend -- started punching and stabbing him with a screwdriver.

He screamed for help, saying, “he’s going to kill me,” police said. A neighbor grabbed his gun and went into the hallway, firing several shots at Hernandez, who fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Police stopped Hernandez’ vehicle later on Sunday and found him with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital and once discharged he was arrested and transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
