PITTSBURGH — A homicide investigation is underway after a man’s body was found wrapped in plastic on the front steps of a duplex Tuesday morning.
Officers were at the home on California Avenue in connection with a missing person’s case. When they got there, they discovered the body.

“When officers arrive to the door they noticed an object wrapped in plastic near the front door,” said Pittsburgh Public Safety Public Information Officer Maurice Matthews. “Officers looked and discovered it was a deceased body. Officers then did a protective sweep inside of the house where they found a woman hiding in the basement.”
That woman was taken into custody for questioning.
On Wednesday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the body as Deric Davis, a missing 53-year-old man who was last heard from in mid-December.
“How could someone do that to another human being?” Stacey Davis said.
Stacey is Deric’s sister and she has a message for his killer.
“I want you under the jail, never see a day of light again in your life,” she said.
Davis’ family said they are sick to their stomachs and are now planning their son’s funeral days before Christmas.
So far, police said no arrests have been made.
