Mom charged after police say she entered school bus, made threats

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — The mother of a Gateway School District elementary student is facing charges after allegedly entering her daughter’s school bus and making threats.

Jada Northcutt, 34, is charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and other offenses.

Channel 11 visited her home for comment on Thursday, but a door was slammed as we approached.

According to a criminal complaint, on the morning of Jan. 27, Northcutt entered her daughter’s school bus at the corner of Garden City and Sunnyfield drives.

She allegedly said, “Who was fighting? ... Don’t get smart with me. I hit kids. I’ll come back there and smack the (expletive) out of you. I’ll meet you at the school. "

According to court documents, Northcutt named one student specifically. That child and her daughter had reportedly been having issues, and Northcutt’s child allegedly in one case attacked the other girl as she exited the bus.

Both incidents were allegedly caught on camera, and video was provided to police from officials at Evergreen Elementary School.

Channel 11 spoke with neighbors who said the report was disappointing.

Resident Carmela Helbling told us the situation is not shocking and that she pulled her four teenagers out of Gateway High School after they suffered threats, bullying, and in one case, an attack that led to criminal charges.

“They can’t concentrate on school because they’re too worried about getting hit, getting pushed around, and what’s going to happen to them, so they’re not able to concentrate on studies,” she said.

The teens now learn from home via cyberschooling.

“Gateway is out of hand and it’s becoming even more out of hand,” one daughter told us. “There is constant bullying, constant drama, people fighting, and it’s not even ‘we’re both gonna fight,’ it’s ‘I’m gonna attack you when you’re not looking.’”

The family hopes Northcutt is held accountable for her alleged actions.

“They need to throw the book at her.”

Northcutt is due in court for a preliminary hearing in early April.
