PITTSBURGH — Several issues will be addressed during a month-long closure of Pittsburgh’s Greenfield Bridge that started Monday.

Just 3 years after the bridge’s construction, its concrete deck needs to be milled and overlaid with a concrete wearing surface meant to ensure water doesn’t permeate into the deck, according to the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure. A protective coating also needs replaced on the east bridge barrier to address flaking and peeling.

Work on the bridge, which spans from Greenfield to Schenley Park, is expected to last about 30 days.

The bridge will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic while the work is being done.

Traffic will be detoured via Beechwood Boulevard, Forward Avenue, Murray Avenue and Beacon Street. Officials said there should be no impact to travel on Interstate 376 below the bridge.

Mosites Construction Company, the contractor that built the bridge, will be doing the work.
