PITTSBURGH — The 9-month-old son of former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Ryan Switzer is finally out of the hospital and recovering, weeks after he started to experience bleeding and was diagnosed with COVID-19.
Switzer shared the good news Monday evening, hours after doctors performed another surgery on his son, Christian.

Switzer tweeted Saturday that Christian was “stable and not actively bleeding.” More tests were done, and doctors saw an abnormality on a scan.
Christian was moved from Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte to Boston Children’s Hospital last week.
Doctors from UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh have also been consulting on the case.
Christian is stable and not actively bleeding, so we’re able to do these tests out patient until they find the issue. Surgery could be as early as Wednesday if they can confirm what they see on the scan Monday is what they’re looking for.

While being treated in Charlotte, Christian underwent blood transfusions, surgery and spent time in the intensive care unit.
Last week, Switzer tweeted that doctors said Christian had a “vascular anomaly” from somewhere in his gastrointestinal tract.
Christian was diagnosed with COVID-19 in early March after waking up in his own blood.
