PITTSBURGH — A most wanted fugitive and his girlfriend were arrested Friday morning, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

D’ondre Kelly, 23, of Braddock, had been wanted since July 3 on a criminal bench warrant for a probation violation. He previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman during a robbery attempt in an elevator of a Wilmerding apartment complex in September 2015.

The victim of the assault told police Kelly punched her in the side of her face when she told him she did not have any money, authorities said. Kelly then went through the victim’s jacket pockets, but did not find anything.

Kelly pleaded guilty in 2016, and part of his sentencing included probation.

In recent days, sheriff’s deputies obtained information that Kelly was staying with his girlfriend, 29-year-old Cherri Barber, in Munhall, authorities said.

On Friday morning, deputies surrounded the home and made entry after seeing Kelly through a window, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was taken into custody after he was found in the living room trying to hide from deputies.

Barber was also taken into custody. Authorities said she had been wanted since Tuesday on an arrest warrant because she failed to appear for a preliminary hearing about a July 25 incident.

Police said Barber allegedly damaged and stole pieces of her sister’s boyfriend’s motorcycle. She was charged with theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief.

Kelly and Barber were taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
