Mother calls police to her home, ends up in handcuffs after spitting on officer, police say

PITTSBURGH — A local mother called police for help but ended up in handcuffs.

Emily Washington, 30, is charged with endangering the welfare of children and aggravated assault against an officer.

According to a police criminal complaint, it all started when Washington called officers to her home in Perry South because her son tried to leave the house.

Police said Washington was irate and extremely uncooperative. Officers claim her behavior escalated when they refused to take her son to a relative’s house.

Washington then allegedly slammed the door and said she was not letting her son back in the house. Police also said they had to forcibly arrest Washington because of her “disruptive behavior.”

In the complaint, police claim Washington “became limp,” forcing the officers to pull her to the squad car. Police said when they let go of her arm to open the cruiser, she turned to one of the officers and spit in his face.

When asked if she had any viruses or diseases, Washington said, “I have anything and everything,” according to the criminal complaint.

Washington’s kids -- a 12-year-old and 3-year-old -- were in custody of CYF after the arrest.
